The Great Big Green Week: Uniting Communities for Climate Action

Reflecting on The Great Big Green Week in Neath with the Ty Banc Team
As part of this year’s Great Big Green Week, an inspiring UK-wide celebration of community-led climate action, we at the Ty Banc Team were thrilled to host a vibrant day of nature, learning, and connection along the Neath Canal. Organised by The Climate Coalition, the week brought together communities across the country to showcase how local action can drive national change. From fair trade coffee mornings to repair cafés, the energy was electric, and we were proud to be part of it.
What Ty Banc Got up to
Canal Connect on the Canal Green welcomed families, friends, and curious passersby to explore the Neath Canal Recovery Project. We shared our journey of restoring this historic waterway and invited everyone to get involved in shaping its future.
Visitors had the options to:
- Picnic and Pause: The Canal Green is a place of laughter and conversation, as we hoped to get people to lay out their picnics and enjoy the weather
- Connect and Learn: We chatted about the Waterways Recovery Group’s upcoming canal camp, the August canal festival, and the many ways people can join us throughout the year.
Why It Mattered
This wasn’t just a fun day out, it was a powerful reminder that communities like ours are already taking action. By spreading the word through posters, social media, and good old-fashioned conversation, we showed that climate action is alive and well in Neath.
We’re so grateful to everyone who came along, asked questions, shared ideas, and made the day so special. Let’s keep the momentum going because together, we can make a real difference.
